Old lady..

I was around 4 when this incident took place. It was at my old house which had already been demolish by now. My younger brother was just brought from the hospital where he had been introduced into this world. Was playing in the living room with all my treasured toys that afternoon. Mum was busy trying to settle my baby brother down as he had been crying almost none stop that whole morning. As a child distracted with so many wonderful toys around him, it's rather hard to notice anything or anyone else there. Until i looked up at the window beside the main door. There was this one old lady who seemed to have been watching me for awhile. She did not say anything at first. Just looking at me, with a smile. All i remembered was that she was wearing black 'tudung' (sort of a veil?). After a while, she spoke, asking my name, how old am i and if i have a little brother. I heard what she said and yet somehow i just froze there without muttering a word. Still looking at her. Finally, she asked to talk to my mum who was inside her room all those while. This time i obliged and called her to the living room.

My mother came out, leaving my bawling-frenzied little bro in the room. She instantly saw the old lady and approached the window without opening the door. They exchanged greetings and started talking, which at that point i proceeded with being a little kid with all his goodies. The conversation went on for a bit as i was quite engrossed with the toys. Then the silent and seemingly peaceful air was pierced by a scream from my mum. Without haste, she shut the windows up and dragged me inside the room where little bro was, screaming his then little lungs out. She slammed the room door and huddled us together. I remembered that she was truly scared and shaken. We stayed that way til the evening where we heard the main door being opened. Then the room door-knob turned and someone peeked in the room. It's dad. Mum then began to breathe a little and told my dad what took place earlier.

Apparently, as mum was talking and answering questions from the old lady, something freaky had happened. The old lady was intently asking numerous questions about my baby brother. She had then finally asked my mum if she could see him for awhile as she very much love babies. Now mum was a little if not a whole lot hesitant about all this. She did'nt even know us and yet she wants to come in to look at the crying critter. Of course naturally, mum had to refuse her the pleasure and boy was she so right in doing so. After the old lady knew she was'nt getting in, she went silent and began to stare at mum dead in the eyes. Mum found it weird for her to do that but still looked at her anyway. As mum gazed on, she saw that the eyes of the lady were getting larger and larger by the seconds. It had apparently got so large that it was impossible for a human. Mum was speechless and felt rather weak to do anything then. The eyes were as mum later described, as huge as tennis balls and that at the moment the old lady had this sickening smile on her wrinkled face. Then she demanded to see my brother. From there onwards, mum had miraculously thawed out and began to scream. That's where i was dragged like a rag doll in the room.

There had been rumours across Singapore and Malaysia, of an old lady-like figure who would roam the streets looking for pregnant women and newly born babies. Babies for her to feed on to survive. Once a beautful woman intent on staying just that and went the way of the dark arts to pursue that vain, reckless ambition. Cursed was she there on after and forever. This incident really happened to me but i'm not sure if that the old lady was whom the rumours initially began from. The kumkum..
