This one happened at this beach called East Coast. Was during a barbeque cum birthday gathering for an ex-classmate. It was all good on that particular day. Reunited with the old gang, got to know some new faces, gobble the goodies, relishing the sinking sun, sand and of course the soothing breeze brought by the serene sea. It was all good indeed, until about slightly later on in the evening..
We were kind of just chilling back, enjoying each other's company and goof-offs, when it began. A man had came running over to us and asked for help. Dude was in a real frantic mode as he almost struggled to get his words out of his quivering mouth. Said that something had happened to his girlfriend while they were taking a midnight swim. One of my friends asked quite a few questions as to what the state of emergency was like. The guy, being in an almost uncontrollable panic attack amazingly got the time and patience to reply to all of my friend's besides-the-point queries. In the end, only me and another friend went to help the fella out. The rest of the slightly less than 20 buddies of mine, including Mr Inquiry decided to hang back to 'hold fort'. And also cupped their nuts, just in case they dropped..
Upon reaching the location, i could pick up this increasingly foul stench thats forcing its way in our noses. Apart from that, we heard the blood-curdling screams of a woman, followed by shrilling laughters that emitted from her as well. It was the girlfriend of the guy who came to us for help just now. As we reached the area, we saw quite a number of guys holding down the writhing woman. They were holding all her limbs down as she was trying to twist and turn to free herself. Was one hell of a sight, looking at what was unfolding in front of us. Nerve-wrecking, as the woman was spewing out all sorts of vulgarities, spitting at the guys, screaming and laughing. The guys, about 7 or 8 of them were actually having problems holding her down. We both, after recovering to our senses, jumped right in to help. I held her hand as my friend held her leg. Only then i realised how strong this woman was. She's like no bigger than the average guy there but i was practically using my weight to keep her hand from getting loose. Amid all the fracas, i was so uneasy as to how this looked to the passer-bys who just came to witness it. Imagine 10 guys holding down 1 woman by the beach. And adding to that, 2 policemen came during then. They were holding their batons as they approached us. Luckily a passer-by told them about what was really up and they ended up standing there to watch.
The woman was getting even more erratic as she was babbling about 'it' saw her swimming in the waters and took a liking towards her. 'It' wanted to bring her back home to be 'it's' wife. So 'it' possessed her and made her walked deeper in the water, away from the shore. Luckily her boyfriend was alert and pulled her to the land. After awhile of us trying to reason and even threatened for the thing to leave her body, 'it' still won't budge. Finally this one guy came running and almost intantly took control of the situation. He muttered some prayers and we saw the woman just went livid. It was also as if she was being poured with boiling water. 'It' threatened us back by saying that 'it' was going to summon the mother to unleash hell on us.
The guy unlike most of us there, was unfazed by all that and proceeded to instruct someone to get a bottle and fill it up with sea water. Someone did, and he muttered something to the bottle and began to pour some of the water on his palm. He then placed his palm on the forehead of the woman, to which she gave her loudest, pain-inflicted scream yet. She fainted soon after and at that moment, everyone was so friggin relieved. We let go of her and went off to where we were. Then, after a few steps, it happened again! She was possessed by the thing again and was gonna dash towards the sea. Fortunately, some guys managed to catch hold of her. We went through with the procedure of removing 'it' from the woman again, though this time it was not as difficult. She then recovered her senses and began to cry. Her boyfriend was close to tears too. It was too much not just for them, but also us who were there. My friend and i went back to the barbeque pit like two soldiers worn away by a gruesome battle. It was harrowing indeed.
Later on as we relented to the ongoing questions about the incident by our friends, there were strong gusts of wind blowing over. In my mind and probably the rest of their's there, could'nt help wondering if it was the threat of the spirit of the sea, or whatever it was, about calling on its mother to seek us. Everyone then went silent and waited arduously for the morning light..
